Fresh Leads Development

One way to secure fresh sales leads is to develop a customer list and lead swap program with business owners and sales professionals in your area who represent noncompeting, but compatible products and services. For example, if you sell home renovation products and installation services, swap your customer and prospect list with an appliance store owner. The business are not in competition, but share common characteristics that could benefit each.

It's Important to deal with the person making the buying decision. However, since many executives have others do the scouting and the shopping before they put their stamp of approval on a sale

A vision in its earliest definition means to see and has been translated into the act or power of seeing. This is the big picture of where the executive team, business owner or even sales management, sees the company going. I like to call it the vanishing point on the horizon.

Visions change as do vanishing points on the horizon. What the big picture was 5 years ago may have been dramatically altered due to new product or service innovations or changes in the local to global marketplace. Wells Fargo is a great illustration of how they have altered their vision to keep the power of seeing going forward. Their vision has not blinded them as the case for many others organizations.

Make sale by Positive Approach

A simple but effective method to increase your sales is to implement an On Hold message system. Instead of leaving your callers listening to silence, play them an message on hold which informs prospects of the products and services you offer and the benefits they bring. For a minimal cost you could have a promotional message to play to a captive audience.

An on hold message is crucial to keeping your callers on the line. At a basic level, an on hold message provides comfort and reassurance to the caller that their call is being dealt with and has not been disconnected. If a caller only has silence to listen to while they wait they are more likely to hang up and are likely not to call back. A lost call is a potential lost sale and who can afford to lose sales? Your lost caller is also likely to be left frustrated and angry and may well pass on their unhappy experience to friends and family.

Messages on hold can also introduce callers to products and services they may not be aware of. Don't assume your caller knows everything that you offer, this is an ideal time to increase awareness and exposure and to cross-sell your product lines. Studies have shown that some callers make additional purchases based on the information they hear while they are on hold.

It is also not as expensive as you may think to employ the services of a professional voice artist to record your on hold message. Professional voice talents can bring their experience of reading persuasive sales messages in a clear and credible manner. They will also provide you with a high quality audio recording to make the listener experience even more positive. So why not consider incorporating an on hold message in your marketing mix.

Salespeople need direction and they need to know exactly what is expected of them. Unfortunately, many Owners and Managers fail to communicate expectations clearly to their salespeople. When that happens, it's common for salespeople to think they're doing fine, whilst the Manager/Owner sees them as underperforming and starts to get very frustrated. Communicate expectations (also known as KPI's, key performance indicators) in writing from day one. Setting KPI's on sales activities, customer meetings & networking events in addition to sales revenue, will ensure that sales remain consistent month to month.

Increase your Sales Business Volume

If you are not selling as much as you'd like or if you're not making as much as you'd like, don't blame it on the markets, competition or others. It's time to forget the excuses and begin to accept accountability for any shortfall in sales volume or your paycheck.

Practice knowing when to listen and when to talk. It is usually better to listen first and speak later. Talking over the prospect is a huge mistake and will annoy them. Also listening doesn't mean being quiet you need to understand what they are saying too! If you are unsure of a point ask for clarification. Make sure that you make notes so that when you assist in the design of the solution you understand their issues. As a sales professional, how is your time management, or as I like to refer to time management, how is your personal productivity?

There are as many different ways to be personally productive as there are CEO's. However, I think few leaders will argue with these five "big picture" items as the solution to being productive in their responsibilities.

Plan - you have to plan your business and your time. Without planning factors such as where you are going, how you're getting there, when you're getting there, who is helping you get there, what you need to get there and why you want to get there, you will likely fall short of your goals in both good and bad markets.

Evaluate your progress - you have to take the time to evaluate how you are doing and make adjustments to your plan if necessary. This prevents you from wasting time on tasks that aren't working in both good and bad markets.

Organize - leaders need to be personally organized, so they can organize their team to execute the plan. You know without organization you will be less effective in getting results in both good and bad markets.

Prioritize - leaders have a great number of things to do and decisions to make. Without properly prioritizing, they can waste their resources focusing on the wrong areas in both good and bad markets.

Schedule - leaders schedule their day, week, month and year. Their daily schedule is set like television programming; you know what's on at what time and the only way that will change is if there is an earth-shattering development that needs to be communicated.

After you've been doing selling for a while, you might get stale. Getting stale can happen when we think in closed minded ways. Or, we feel too comfortable in the current sales cycle routine. This might be a sales death attitude in the making. However, we can take the opposite avenue and eagerly look to keep training ourselves to stay crisp and interesting to our clients. By eagerly keeping current with training, we are better salespeople. Better salespeople make more money. So, there is a lot of benefit to you about doing regular sales training.

Keep track of your sales. When you track your sales, you can identify which approaches work best, who sells the most, and other details about your sales process and records. Keep a record journal of the statistics. Using your business sales journal entries, you can quickly see what approaches work most effectively and which ones are clunkers to be deleted.

Extensive Sales Research

Extensive research conducted by the American Society for Testing and Development (ASTD) discovered direct training expenditures were 2% of payroll costs with another 10% of more in indirect costs. With all of this interest and dollars being invested in training and development for improved sales, possibly now is the time to assess your sales development.

As tomatoes grow they need support or they will flop to the ground and our fruit will spoil. A trellis needs to be constructed to keep the vine growing the way we want it to grow. Constant attention to the plant and working the vines through the trellis will keep our tomato vine healthy for a long growing season. The same is true with our sales team. They require training and a system of learning new skills to keep them abreast of opportunities for sales. If we have areas we want to grow the business towards, we must train our salespeople to understand the best ways to sell the services we offer. Keeping a sales team trained requires constant interaction and tools for development. Access to a resource library with audio and video sales training tools for this purpose will aid in development.

Most sales people are trustworthy good intentioned people who wake up each day looking for the people they can help. They have absolute confidence that their product or service is a perfect match for many people, and they can’t wait to make those people’s lives better for having met them. These are either your super sales people or super sales people in the making. They understand that buyers must believe that you are doing your best to help them, and protect their interests. It’s easy for them to win a buyers confidence because they are 100% genuine. The more genuine you are, and the more confidence buyers have in you, the greater your sales success.

A super sales person is part friend, part confidant, part expert, part therapist, and always an over the top listener. One of the things a super sales person is always listening for is why people buy. A super sales person knows that people will buy if, and only if, they want your solution. Predominantly they have to have something they really want first, and then you have to help them to see that your solution is the best option for fulfilling that want. That can’t happen until or unless they understand your solution. They won’t understand your solution until you understand their exact want as well as they do, and you’re able to help them discover how your solution is the perfect match.
